Nancy Davis --- 1945-2006

Postby Nick / Staff on Wed Feb 01, 2006 11:53 am

With sad regret I am informing everyone that one of the owners of RateMyTeachers, Nancy Davis, passed away yesterday quietly in her sleep. Over the last few months Nancy was battling cancer. I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with Nancy over the last few years and very thankful for all that she has done for me. Last year I had the pleasure of meeting Nancy before she was diagnosed and she truly is a great person and will be greatly missed.

All of the staff of RateMyTeachers would like to pass on our deepest condolences to the family and close friends of Nancy.

Please feel free to reply with a message of respect.

This is very sad to hear. My condolences to Nancy's family and friends. Nancy did some great things for all of us and will indeed be missed. Here's hoping we can carry on her legacy at RMT.

She was like a second mother to me. I emailed her constantly to remind her how much I appreciated all the work she has done over the years, and that this site has become a huge part of my life. I always asked how things were, but I never knew she had cancer (and I could understand why she didn't tell anyone). I just wish I would have had the chance to tell her goodbye. I haven't stopped crying since Bob told me the news. She really was always there for me and always talked to me no matter what the conditions were, and she was never too busy to respond to any email, or concern... I will really miss her; I don't think anyone will know how much. She made a difference in my life through her emails, and if I had the money I would go attend her funeral. I'm glad though that she went in her sleep so it was indeed peaceful.

Goodbye Nancy; I'll never forget you. You were an amazing person indeed!

*tears* Battling cancer is not an easy thing to do, and I would know. Even though I haven't been here that long, it's very sad to know that she's gone; and how she's made RateMyTeachers such a great place. Goodbye, Nancy. Image

Nancy was such a friendly person. I remember when I'd e-mail her while I was on vacation she'd joke with me about how her cellphone wasn't up to such technology to send e-mails and how I should just enjoy my vacation

She will definitely be missed

This site is dedicated to Nancy Lynn Davis 1945-2006 & Brian Timothy Davis 1981-2003
I'm glad it was changed to reflect her name. I am still in shocked and shaken by this. Still just can't believe she's gone.

Im really saddened.

Not only have my grandparents died from cancer, 3 of my closest friends died in a car crash.

Just an opinion, but i think, 1 year from now, all ratings should be stoped for 1 hour to honor her.

Ill miss you, the one i never met.

Oh, and is jeramy a new staff member?

Eternal Chaos, It does not matter how long.

I consider every member of RateMyTeachers a familly. Ive posted a sad story about how i dont have that much of a familly and i love all of you here.

It does not matter. Total strangers come together in a time of need or sadness to react.
Welcome to the rmt familly. No one will ever fill the hole in the familly.

I would agree with stopping all rating from happening for one hour to remember who she was and what she made this entire site. If that's possible; I would say rather than stopping ratings to use the regular page that appears when they're down for maintenance with a message.

I was just reading over one of the emails I sent her at Christmas time:
I really hope that things in your life have been looking up and that you're doing great! I hope your Christmas is awesome and filled with warmth (quite literally in California), and personally would like to wish you the best of Christmas wishes. Another year coming to a close and one more to come with RMT.

Great work. Each and everyone of the members of the site and forums make this place a truly unique and enjoyable place to come and spend time. It's amazing what a development and major impact this site has made on people's lives throughout every country it's in thus far.

Congratulations, and Merry Christmas!
I won't post her reply out of privacy, but I noticed one thing through looking through the latest emails; she used to tell me how her life was going and how she enjoyed being with her grandson and all this, but the last three emails (all in the past 2 months) she avoided answering how she was. I should have realized it.
My response wrote:Thanks for replying, Nancy. You're so caring, and you take the time to reply to every email. You're really an amazing person from my perspective. Thanks for the reply.

I just wish I could have said goodbye. I hope she realized how much she meant to me. I just can't believe one day someone is here and gone the next. I just can't cope this fact that she's gone and I'll never get to talk to her again.

Is there any chance that you could get to the memorial service?

Having also lost someone very close to me (closer than anyone could ever be, really) to cancer a few years back, I understand how hard it is to battle and respect her in not revealing it to the world.

There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said, especially since I never really conversed with her, but I am deeply saddened to hear of this, and know that she will be greatly missed not just by her close family and friends, but by all who partake in this forum and those who use the site. Simply by making this site available, she has already touched the lives of millions.
Coming up at 11, a recent study has found that one's head grows as an exponential proportion to the amount of power one thinks he has. This is in addition to another study finding that one's britches also appear to shrink proportionately to ones assumed power level. According to these findings, its amazing Hitler could even still wear pants and/or a hat when he died. Also coming up, Diane's weight.

If I had the money saved up at all you better believe I would be there to pay my final respects to the person who was always there to give me advice when things in my life weren't going well.

Nancy Davis shall always have a place in our hearts

I too also agree with the idea of having the site shut down for an hour one year from now on Feb.1st. but it should say "im memory of Nancy Davis" or something like that so people know the site is still up

Two quick thoughts:

1) Since we'll be commemorating her life, I think remembering Nancy on her birthday rather than the day she died is more fitting.

2) Rather than shutting down the site, maybe it would be nice to have a page that has a picture of her and a short biography, which then redirects to the regular site after 30 seconds.

both wonderful ideas!

Perhaps on the bio page those who knew her could write a short note?
